The American Council of the Blind (ACB) is a national membership
organization of blind and visually-impaired people with expertise in all
aspects of blindness and low vision, including an Audio Description Program
(ADP) led by Joel Snyder, a renowned pioneer in live description.
The ACB will be responsible for the organization and execution of a total of two focus
groups to provide feedback and guidance on the technologies proposed by, and
developed at the VDRDC. The focus groups will be at each of the national conventions during the project period.
Joel Snyder will represent the ACB on the Description Leadership Network, and will be responsible for managing all of the Center tasks in which the ACB is involved. Mr. Snyder is the president of Audio Description Associates, and the Director of ACB’s new Audio Description Project. One of the first audio describers, Mr. Snyder began describing theater events and media in 1981. He is a member of Actors' Equity Association, the American Federation of TV and Radio Artists, the Screen Actors Guild, and a 20-year veteran of work as an arts specialist for the National Endowment for the Arts. He is perhaps best known internationally as one of the first "audio describers."
