The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a global leader and innovator in multi-media online exhibits and accessible art education for the blind and visually impaired.

Roles

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will organize an annual half-day workshop on the work of the VDRDC as it relates to Internet and multi-media museum-based educational experience. In 2011 the workshop will take place at the Art Beyond Sight Conference in New York, providing connections to a large international group of innovative multi-media museum exhibit designers and arts educators. Another workshop will be planned for 2012 at a similar conference.

Rebecca McGinnis will manage VDRDC dissemination and outreach projects directed at museum and arts educators, as well as organizing important trainings and workshops for these stakeholders. Her position as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Museum Educator in charge of Access Coordination, Ms. McGinnis is in a fabulous position to serve as the Center’s liaison to the museum education community. Ms. McGinnis is the primary organizer for the biennial Art Beyond Sight conference focusing on museum and arts access for the blind. This unique conference draws hundreds of educators, researchers, and technology innovators from all over the world and is the primary conference focusing on museum accessibility and technology.
